Since 1946, Ker & Downey has led safaris across East and Southern Africa, connecting discerning travellers with the world’s most fabled wilderness. The longest-running safari outfitter on the continent, we pioneered the photographic safari — and we’re still leading the way.

The best safari company the world has ever known.
Ker & Downey was born from a chance encounter between two big-game hunters at the close of the Second World War. Eighty years, and three generations of guides later, no name is more synonymous with the African safari than “The Original Ker & Downey Safaris.”

Moving with the wild, camp by camp.
Eighty years of experience taught us that the closest you can get to Africa is to sleep in it. Our custom-built tents are the largest and roomiest available, pitched by hand in hand-picked wilderness, and struck again the moment we move on — leaving no trace behind.
A guiding lineage that dates to the dawn of safari.

Boutique lodges as stepping stones on safari.
While camp moves to its next destination, we often use beautiful boutique lodges and private bush homes as stepping stones — from Jack’s Camp in the Kalahari to Singita Pamushana in the Zimbabwean lowveld.
To the heart of the action.
“We camped in an exclusive game area, with a camp crew of twelve who laughed and sang all day… hot showers, iced sundowners, amazing meals and super-comfortable enormous tents. It hardly felt like camping.”— Sandy & Chuck Drimal, Guestbook
